Classes

Classes are ongoing, and we change up the theme and instructional content every 4-8 weeks (see below for upcoming series).

If you’re brand new to belly dance, I ask that you start fresh on the first day of a new series (or as close to it as possible). Please contact me if you have questions/concerns about getting started! I am more than happy to help recommend a class (even if it’s not my own class).

Join us for a very special pop-up belly dance class with Donna Barrett on the topic of: “Making the Most of What You Already Know: Improvisation”

Donna brings to class her decades of knowledge and experience in belly dance and folkloric dances, as a visual artist, and as a drummer. She has an amazing knack for creating an environment in which dancers can step beyond technique vocabulary, and unlock the skills necessary to express oneself as an artist. She is a compassionate teacher and encourages every student to learn and express themselves as an individual.

This is a beginner-friendly mixed-level class, as instruction will focus on improvisation exercises that can be used with any amount of belly dance vocabulary.

If you’re an existing student, you can use your class card credit for this class. Drop-ins for $15 are also welcome! I encourage all dancers to take advantage of this rare opportunity to experience a class with Donna in Woodstock!

Beginner Belly Dance – Shapeshift! Mini-Series

In this 4-week mini-series, we’ll be learning how to make the characteristic shapes of belly dance with our bodies. Figure 8’s, circles, squares, and more! This class is appropriate for those brand new to belly dance, with progressions provided for more experienced dancers.

Each class will feature shape-themed movements, traveling steps, and combos to help build your belly dance vocabulary using the shapes we see in nature and everyday life.

Bellydance is a low impact dance form that will help strengthen your core muscles, and train your balance as well as coordination. All are welcome to come to class and find joy in moving to the music of the world!

Class cards for this series can be used in any future series. Please purchase thoughtfully, as class cards can be exchanged, but not refunded.

What to wear to class:
Soft stretchy clothing that allows you to move freely is recommended (yoga pants, fitted top, a hip sash if it makes you feel lovely! etc.). We dance in bare feet, but please feel free to wear flat dance shoes with a soft suede sole, or jazz shoes if you prefer (no street shoes).
